As part of the response to the fish mortality events that occurred in the lower Darling River, and other parts of the Murray-Darling Basin during the 2018-19 summer, the Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources announced $5 million of joint government (state and Commonwealth) money towards the development of a Native Fish Management and Recovery Strategy (NFMRS). A stakeholder workshop to inform the development of a business case for the strategy was held in April with numerous experts attending. Following approval of the NFMRS business case, development of the NFMRS will commence over 2019-20 alongside a detailed whole of Basin consultation and engagement process. The MDBA will be presenting further details on the NFMRS at AFSS.
