Oral Presentation AFSS/NZFSS Joint Conference 2019

Trees and the first nations people (#161)

In my presentation I would like to talk/discuss/write from a First Nations person perspective and standpoint on what the significance of trees means to us as First Nations Peoples. Trees belong in our Cultural Flow stories; these stories have been transmitted from one generation to another generation and I would like to present my knowledge and findings to share, educate and share my cultural stories with other First Nations Peoples.

I am very active in my community and I attend workshops about trees and the environment to gather knowledge from other perspectives and compare with my culture the significance of trees, their cultural sacredness and their locations, hence, to register on our data base for the Riverland area.

I will be working with Berri/Barmera Council in the Riverland area. By working with the Local Council in this capacity I’m hoping this partnership will nourish and educate the wider general communities to have a more better understanding of First nations Peoples culture and how important trees were to us as First Nations Peoples and need to be recognised in a more identifiable capacity.

We are planning a TREE TRIP for Non-First Nations peoples and anyone else who would be interested in these theories

Thank you I hope I am able to have this opportunity to enlighten people on the significance of trees.
